AAPN business meeting

The AAPN BOD quarterly meeting took place virtually on July 15, 2020. The board of directors present at the quarterly business meeting, but due to covid19 precautions and canceled dinner meetings, we would still like to provide you with the highlights.

Education Committee: Many of the dinner meetings have been postponed and/or canceled until later in the fall. Will continue to post virtual meetings but often will not provide dinners.

Treasury: Reimbursements had been made for cruise expenses, AAPN hosted educational programs, student scholarship, preceptor gift cards, Meals on Wheels donation, and 3 Covid19 Relief Grants. Current balance is $31,926.74

Membership Committee: As of July 15th there are 359 total members (16 new members and 44 renewals), the previous quarter there were 377.

Social Media: continue to update our members with healthcare news, students post for preceptor needs, and job postings.

Preceptor Initiative: AAPN members whose preceptor will receive an annual waived membership fee. There have been two APRNs who have offered to precept and received gift cards.

Scholarship Committee: The next deadline is October 1st.

Conference Grant/Excellence Award: The deadline for conference grant is July 1st, please find details and criteria on the website.

Cruise Committee: The cruise has been postponed till 2021. The team has informed all registered attendees and speakers in order to request a refund. Members will need to book through the group in order to apply for a conference grant. Speaker’s reimbursement for the conference grant is a pending board decision.

Community Outreach: The University of Texas Medical Reserve Corps has 29 AAPN members volunteer to plan, coordinate, operate, and communicate efforts. The role is to promote the role development and service of its members by supporting their efforts to volunteer in the community. The AAPN board is willing to donate $1,000 to support UTMRC.

Currently, UTMRC is assisting in covid19 efforts by swabbing, vaccinating, providing mental health care and contact tracing.

The Disaster Volunteer Register is looking for volunteers to work in the ACS.

New Business:

Covid19: The AAPN would like to offer additional incentives for APRNs to precept students over the summer (or when allowed) who have had to delay their coursework due to Covid19. In support of local Austin restaurants, gift cards will be presented to preceptors on a first come first serve basis.
