Outgoing President Dee Swanson - Incoming President Dr. Penny Kaye Jensen
The opening keynote speaker was Dr. Mary Wakefield, RN, Administrator for HRSA who is advocating an increase in NP jobs, Nursing School funding and NP’s in office.

Dr. Loretta Ford, co-founder of the NP role, spoke about the wonderful joy and great satisfaction she feels of the collective progress our profession has made since 1965, and sees our changing healthcare system as a positive time for nurse practitioners.
Dr. Jan Towers, our director of health policy for AANP, discussed current legislative works at the Federal Level and encourages a grass roots effort to build legislative cosponsors to advocate for S 2814 and HR 4993 allowing NPs to order Home Health care.

This year is also the 10th Anniversary for the Fellows of American Academy of Nurse Practitioner (FAANP). 44 inductees were inaugurated; 6 NPs from Texas, including CNAPs Lynda Woolbert, for a total of 267 Fellows. Dr. Judith Berg, chair of FAANP, encourages more NPs with outstanding leadership, practice, education, research or health policy development to be recognized as a member of FAANP.
As always, AANP conferences have an incredible variety of seminars and workshops available for continuing education. It is also a great opportunity to network with old and new colleagues. Think about attending in June 2011, the conference will be held in Las Vegas!
