Media Inquires :Message from Linda Woolbert MSN, RN, PNP Director Executive Coalition for Nurses in Advanced Practice

Posted almost 14 years ago by Dorothy Darby

Our APRN public relations consultants developed information that we need you to review regarding media inquiries. Articles are being generated across the country about the nationwide shortage of primary care physicians and some mention possible solutions, including the role of nurse practitioners and other APRNs. We are trying to deliver a consistent message to the media throughout the state regarding our role as part of the solution to the growing problems in accessing health care.

The media consultants want me to speak to the media as much as possible and take most of the initial media calls or inquiries. However, we know that local media are very likely to contact APRNs in the area. Therefore, we want everyone to be prepared and know what to do if someone from the media calls.

Please access the documents to help you handle media inquiries on CNAP's Website at http://www.cnaptexas.org/displaycommon.cfm?an=1&subarticlenbr=14. Scroll to the bottom of the page and download the three documents under the heading, "Mini Press Kit." The kit includes a media protocol with steps to follow if you receive a call from the media. In addition there are two great reference documents, "New Health Care in Texas: What Health Care Reform Means to Us" and "2009 Map of Texas Counties Designated as Medically Underserved Areas." These two documents can be distributed to the media, and will also help you explain how APRNs can be an important part of the solution. These documents are key to helping all of us deliver a consistent message to the public and to Texas legislators.

Take a look at the materials and steps to follow for media inquiries and let us know if you have any questions or need further information. Thanks for your cooperation with this important issue.

Best Regards,

Lynda
