We must thank our PMHNPs colleagues, Ericia Navaira Buch and Justin Cullers for being on top of this story. This weekend, they were doing a great deal of the behind the scene work on this story as it was hitting the KVUE audience and began posting on FB for all of us to get involved. Also thanks to the PNPs (Loa Borchert) and Hill Country APNs ( Nathan Lesch and Dawn Peterson) who circulated the call to duty to their respective members. I am sure that I am leaving some others who were key to this success.

Important Update: Victory for APRNs this Weekend!

Dear TNP Members: We are pleased to inform you that your voices were heard! As you may have learned by now, KVUE News, Austin has been running a promo for the last several days for a segment which was scheduled to air Monday, February 20th, called “APRNs.” It was an inflammatory piece which mischaracterized the role of APRNs, including nurse practitioners. TNP was actively working all weekend with the APRN Alliance, the APRN Business Coalition, AANP, and a team of Lobbyists and PR Consultants to respond to and address this matter. In response to the overwhelming numbers of Facebook comments, emails, phone calls, and contacts from AANP and TNP leadership directed to the station, KVUE has pulled the segment and issued the following statement: “Thank you for contacting KVUE. Over the weekend, we promoted an investigative story on Advanced Practice Registered Nurses. Upon feedback from the nursing community, we reevaluated the story and have decided not to run it. Ultimately, it did not pass our editorial standards around balance, objectivity and integrity. We are looking at our internal processes to determine how this story was advanced. We thank the APRN community for their feedback and remain dedicated to ensuring all our stories meet KVUE’s long-lasting tradition of excellence.” Thank you to all TNP and AANP members.
