Medical Relief's (IMR) Medical Mission to Nepal

Dear Friends and Family,

Greetings from International Medical Relief's (IMR) Medical Mission Team! I would like to take a few moments to tell you about an upcoming medical and surgical clinic that I have been invited to participate in; and to extend you an invitation to become part of this experience here in the US.

In December, I am taking a team of 12 volunteer advanced practice nurses (many my former students) to Kathmandu to work in acute medical and surgical clinics and hospitals that care for some of the most underserved and poor populations in Nepal, affected by the April 2015 earthquake. Our patients will include Tibetan refugees, young Buddhist nuns, and residents of small, remote villages who are in desperate need of medical care. We plan to treat illnesses and injuries but also teach—teach patients about their illness, prevention of injuries, prevention of water and fecal borne diseases, eye and dental care, and basic first aid. We will target women in the villages, women's issues and family/community health. We also hope to provide continuing education for local nurses and physicians on topics that interest them. Finally, it will be a life-changing experience for my team, many of whom have never done anything like this before.

It will be an intensive week but we will be working alongside other qualified volunteers and medical professionals from across the United States. We are confident that we will be able to help more people than ever, but we need financial assistance to help the trip be successful.
